Update on future of Leigh Leopards linked man

Leigh Leopards

David Armstrong came extremely close to joining the Leigh Leopards earlier in the season, however, the move never materialised due to their lack of a quota spot. Since then, Armstrong has burst into the Newcastle Knights first team, scoring five tries in four appearances, including a hat trick in the NRL Magic Round. Armstrong’s emergence has alerted clubs across to the UK and Australia to his ability, and now he has reportedly been offered a contract for 2025. His current deal expires at the end of the season and, for the moment, his future remains unclear. Could Leigh still pull off a huge coup by securing his services?

Leeds Rhinos have announced their biggest off-the-field restructuring in years. The club have begun the process of recruiting a Sporting Director who will oversee all aspects of the club’s sporting performance across both the Men’s and Women’s teams. As soon as the news was announced, the rumour mill kicked into overdrive with a host of names being linked with the role. According to Sky Sports pundit, Jon Wilkin, a Leeds Rhinos legend tops the list of potential candidates.

Sam Burgess has barely got his feet under the table with the Warrington Wolves, however, he is almost constantly being linked with a move to the NRL. First, he was reportedly in the frame for the South Sydney Rabbitohs job, before dismissing the link. Then the Parramatta Eels were reportedly interested, but no move has materialised. Burgess has re-affirmed his commitment to the Wolves. Yesterday, speaking to Sky Sports, he gave an update on whether he would be interested in extending his time at the club. Burgess has the chance to win the first silverware of his career at the first opportunity in the Challenge Cup final.

The market for wingers in Super League is currently one of the most active in the league. With the Catalans Dragons, St Helens, Hull FC and Leigh Leopards all potentially in the market for backs, the rumour mill kicks into full gear whenever a top class player hits the market. So when news broke yesterday that New Zealand international, Ken Maumalo, was available, it was sure to pique the interest of several top tier clubs in Super League. Maumalo has struggled for game time with the Gold Coast Titans, a move to Super League could be the perfect opportunity to resurrect his career.

Simon Grix has been boosted in his search for a first win as Hull FC coach by the addition of Tiaki Chan to the Hull squad. Chan has impressed in both of his games for the Black and Whites so far, crossing for a first try of the season in their recent defeat against Castleford Tigers. Chan is currently on a rolling loan deal with FC, meaning his spell could be cut short with relatively little notice. However, Grix has been impressed with him since his arrival and he is hopeful of keeping him at the club for a prolonged spell.

Salford overseas signing set for exit

Salford Red Devils David Nofoaluma

David Nofoaluma has had a difficult few years. Having left the NRL under a disciplinary cloud, it was hoped that a move to Salford and Super League would help him to rediscover his best form. However, Nofoaluma has managed just two appearances for the Red Devils. Now, it is reported that he has lost the faith of the coaching staff having missed training and could be on the verge of leaving the club. On his day, Nofoaluma has bags of talent. It would be a shame to see him leave Super League without having been able to demonstrate that.
