Rugby union star set for huge rugby league transfer

In the last month rugby union star and Wallaby international Mark Nawaqanitawase agreed a move to rugby league giants Sydney Roosters which could be the start of a worrying trend for rugby union.

Henry Arundell, who scored five tries on his Rugby World Cup debut in France last year, was linked with a move to the NRL. The battle to retain talent is fierce.

All Blacks halfback Cortez Ratima spoke about “the chat around the NRL.

“Few boys have been looking to go over there,” Ratima told RugbyPass.

“I don’t even know, aye,” Ratima told RugbyPass. “If the opportunity came I guess I’d have to have a think about it.”

Now, there are reports that Jordan Petaia, another Wallaby, could be leaving as he is considering offers from three different sports.

Petaia, who is 23 years old, is set to become a free agent from Australian rugby at the end of 2024. It is said that representatives from various codes have reached out to him, being aware of his upcoming availability.

According to The Daily Telegraph in Australia, Petaia has been contacted by the NFL International Player Pathway Program, a Queensland NRL team, as well as Japanese rugby clubs.

Rugby League star set for own switch

Although rugby league star Matt Burton is currently contracted to the Canterbury Bulldogs until the end of the 2027 NRL season, he has expressed his interest in playing in the NFL despite being an Australia international.

Many Australians have found success in the world’s top gridiron league, which offers enormous salaries for those playing major American sports. Talent scouts from the NFL have previously noticed Burton’s exceptional kicking game, which he has become known for in the NRL.

Burton’s ability to send kicks soaring high into the sky is a valuable skill that is highly desired in the NFL. It is therefore not surprising that the gifted player has caught the eye of scouts abroad. Additionally, Burton may also switch to the centres in 2024.
