Hull KR lose star man to awkward injury in World Club Challenge

Hull KR were dealt a worrying injury blow in their World Club Challenge clash with Brisbane Broncos.

The Rohins had raced into an 18-0 lead with tries from debutant Tom Amone, captain Elliot Minchella and last year’s top scorer Joe Burgess, however, they were pegged back after some excellent athleticism by Brisbane on the left wing.

Despite that comfortable lead, the Robins were sweating going into the second half after seeing starting full-back Arthur Mourgue leave the field with what Sky Sports confirmed as a chest injury.

The Frenchman, who joined from Catalans Dragons in 2025, found himself in an awkward position as Ezra Mam tried to dart over and score.

Jez Litten ultimately saved the try, giving away a penalty for a ball steal in the process, but that was the least of Hull KR’s concerns as they saw their full-back walk off the field holding his shoulder and chest, possibly suggesting a pectoral injury.

Hull KR full-back ruled out

Despite leaving the field holding his shoulder, Sky Sports’ Jenna Brooks confirmed that it was in fact a chest injury.

Speaking from pitch-side, she said: “Terrible news, I’ve been told that it’s a chest injury and he will not be returning tonight.”

With Mourgue confirmed as done for the evening, Hull KR moved Mikey Lewis to full-back with Jez Litten shifted to the halves. NRL signing Karl Lawton moved to hooker as a result.

At half-time, the Robins lead 18-4 with Gehamat Shibasaki’s try and Arthur Mourgue’s injury the only blots on what was an otherwise near-perfect half for Willie Peters and Hull KR.

Hull KR went on to extend that lead to 30-4 before conceding four tries as Brisbane threatened a comeback but ultimately fell short, with the Robins winning 30-24 to secure their first World Club Challenge title.
