The Rugby Football League have released a statement following the news that Vice President Danika Priim has been charged with sexual assault.

Reports emerged in the national media that the former England Rugby League international turned pundit was set to appear in court in March.

That followed allegations and a charge of sexual assault with Priim alleged to have ‘intentionally touched a woman aged 16 or over’, when ”she did not consent’.

The incident is alleged to have taken place at Horsforth Cricket Club in West Yorkshire in July 2022.

The RFL previously refused to comment when approached but they have now released a statement on their website regarding Priim.

It read: “The Rugby Football League can confirm that it has been agreed that Danika Priim will voluntarily stand down from her role as RFL Vice President whilst ongoing legal proceedings take place.

“The Rugby Football League will be making no further comment until completion of the legal proceedings.”

Priim only took up the position of RFL Vice President earlier this month with the ex-Leeds Rhinos and Bradford Bulls star being presented with her chains of office alongside new RFL President Adam Hills.

Danika Priim started her career in the 13-player code with Stanningley and it was during her time with the Leeds-based club that she received her first England cap. She went on to join Bradford Bulls in 2017 before signing with Leeds Rhinos ahead of the 2018 season.

She spent four years at Headingley, with Challenge Cup and Grand Final successes coming before her retirement in the aftermath of the club’s loss to St Helens in the 2021 Grand Final.
