One Castleford Tigers man has made a loan move away from the club with a Championship side making a double swoop to bolster their squad.
Young playmaker Jenson Windley has found minutes hard to come by at Castleford Tigers so far in 2025 with the 18-year-old yet to make an appearance under Danny McGuire.
He’s now set for a playing opportunity elswhere with the teenager linking up with former Castleford boss Craig Lingard, who gave him his Tigers’ debut.
Lingard is currently the coach at Sheffield Eagles, having been replaced by Danny McGuire at Wheldon Road at the end of the 2024 season, but the Eagles are struggling in 2025.
They sit just 10th in the league with only three wins in the league all season but they’re bolstering their squad with Windley arriving on a month-long loan and Widnes Vikings forward Martyn Reilly, who also played under Lingard, joining on a two-and-a-half-year deal.
Castleford Tigers youngster makes Sheffield Eagles switch
Both are in contention to be selected on Sunday against York Knights with Sheffield announcing the arrivals ahead of time.
Confirming Windley, they said: “Sheffield Eagles are pleased to confirm the signing of promising young half-back Jenson Windley from Castleford Tigers on a one-month loan deal.”
The teenager played five times for Castleford under Lingard with his senior debut coming just after his 18th birthday. His standout game came against Hull FC as he led the Tigers to a 39-20 win where he also crossed for a try.
As for Reilly, the forward brings far more experience and is another face familiar to Lingard having played at Batley Bulldogs before making his move to Widnes Vikings.
The 29-year-old has almost 100 appearances in the Championship and has made 15 appearances for Widnes to date in 2025 before joining the Eagles.
