York Knights owner Clint Goodchild is hoping for silverware before the end of the decade, and is fully confident his club can achieve it.
The Knights took the Super League by storm last week, after securing a shock win over Hull KR on the opening night of the season, and announced themselves to the competition by doing so.
Ata Hingano’s drop goal sealed York the two points, and Goodchild could not have been prouder of the 17 that took to the field to defeat the reigning treble winners.
That result was only game one of what York hope to be a long and successful spell in the top flight, and despite toppling the Robins, they are not stopping there, and have made silverware a priority over the coming years.
Speaking to Sky Sports’ The Bench podcast, Goodchild revealed the club’s long-term success plan, with the Australian targeting at least a trophy before the 2020’s come to an end.
In what would be an incredible feat, the owner is certain that the club will be able to accomplish it, despite what people on the outside may think.

York Knights owner sets ambitious silverware target
Asked by Jenna Brooks when he thinks silverware will come, he confidently replied: “2029. That’s always been the goal.
“I know that that’s a really difficult thing to achieve – [you look at] how many clubs have won Super League, it’s not something that’s easily achieved, but neither was getting to the Super League.
“Our whole philosophy is we just work harder, and we care and we get out of bed and we do whatever it takes to go to that next level.”
Commenting on the backlash he may get from that goal, he replied:
“It will be some social media bite that everyone will throw tomatoes at, but that’s okay. You asked the question and that’s the honest truth.
“That’s our goal, and I think if you are in the Super League, and you don’t have a goal like that, don’t expect to achieve it.”
York have already been victorious under Goodchild, particularly in 2025, where they won the 1895 Cup as well as the Championship League Leaders Shield.
They lost out on the Grand Final, but their success both on and off the field more than secured their place in the top flight.
