Women’s Challenge Cup Final preview as St Helens v Wigan Warriors set for Wembley stage

Women's Challenge Cup Final preview as St Helens face Wigan Warriors

The Women’s Challenge Cup Final kicks off Finals Day at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 7th June, as St Helens and Wigan Warriors go head-to-head for the first time in the women’s game in the final.

St Helens go into the final hoping to win their fifth Challenge Cup trophy in a row, compared to Wigan heading into their very first Final appearance at Wembley.

It’s set to be one of the most exciting match-ups in the women’s game, as it features the top two sides in the Women’s Super League and their unbeaten records are at stake.

Wigan Warriors are the most in-form side in 2025, winning all three of their WSL games so far, averaging sixty points per game.

Their route to the final included wins over London Broncos and Barrow Raiders in the group stages before beating Cardiff Demons 96-0 in the quarter-finals and then Leeds Rhinos 44-14 in the semi-finals.

However, the Warriors have been the ‘nearly’ team for some time, reaching the semi-finals of the last two seasons in both the Challenge Cup and WSL play-offs too.

Now, it’s about translating that into a piece of silverware for their historic first win. Could that be at Wembley on Saturday?

Saints know exactly what to do in big games, winning the last four Challenge Cups, but with less success in their league campaigns.

2024 was nearly the perfect year for them, winning the Cup and the League Leaders Shield, but York Valkyrie spoiled the party by beating them in the WSL Grand Final.

Can St Helens do one better in 2025 and complete the full sweep?

The Women’s Challenge Cup Final is on Saturday 7th June, with a kick-off time of 11:45am, and for those not heading to Wembley, it will be shown live on BBC Two.
