‘Without a doubt’ – Hull KR man hails the difference maker behind his remarkable form

Hull KR boss Willie Peters is helping Jack Broadbent to reach his true potential in a red and white shirt. That’s the belief of Broadbent who claimed a brace on Thursday as the Robins swept the floor with his former club, winning 48-0.

Broadbent hasn’t always had a recognised home in the KR XIII and just this season alone he has played at full-back, wing and centre, while has come off the bench on a couple of occasions, too. What’s notable though, is that he has performed well in every position he has played, with Thursday bringing his fourth two-try haul in a game.

He now has 13 for the season and with a Challenge Cup winners medal at home, it’s fair to say the 23-year-old is having by far his best year in the game. Indeed, Broadbent has always been a talent, but if he can continue to perform as he is doing, it would not be a surprise to see him move onto the fringes of the England squad come the end of the year, with his versatility being such an asset.

Broadbent is playing in a Rovers side that has lost just one game all season, but so much of that is down to Peters, the former Leeds Rhinos man says.

“Without a doubt, wherever it is I’m slotting in well and he’s definitely bringing the best out in me,” he told Sky Sports at The Jungle when asked if he was playing his best rugby. “I think you can see we’re all loving playing together and I think you can see in the full team everyone is playing their best rugby and it’s all clicking.

“All the staff are good, they don’t leave any stone unturned. We knew everything they were going to do tonight and we had that game plan, we executed it and it worked. What they’re telling us to do is working. We have faith in him, trust in him and what he tells us to do, we have no doubt about going out there and doing it will get us the win.”

Hull KR keep on pushing

The clash against the Tigers as billed as something of a potential banana skin fixture, but the Robins just keep on rolling towards the League Leaders’ Shield.

“I think it just shows our mentality,” Broadbent continued. “We want to be ruthless, we want to suffocate teams and we just think that teams won’t go with us.

“We’ve had a pre-season, we’ve talked about pre-season a lot but it’s tough and that’s what puts us in these positions to not get that Challenge Cup hangover and keep going week in, week out.”
