Willie Peters provides Hull KR injury updates on Tom Davies and Joe Burgess

Hull KR - 18/04/2025 - Rugby League - Betfred Super League Round 8 - Hull FC v Hull KR - MKM Stadium, Kingston upon Hull, England - Hull KR's Joe Burgess.

Hull KR head coach Willie Peters has given injury updates on Joe Burgess and Tom Davies after the pair picked up knocks during Friday’s Hull derby. The Robins claimed a 28-14 win over their bitter rivals at the MKM Stadium, turning in a gritty and resolute performance to keep hold of top spot in Super League.

But, it came at a price, with both wingers having to leave the field through injury. Tom Davies was forced off with a shoulder injury, while Joe Burgess departed in the second half with a head knock and never returned.

Speaking after the game, Peters provided the latest on both injuries.

“Shoulder,” the Hull KR boss said when asked about Davies’ issue. “We have to wait and see, he has to get scans.

“Joe Burgess failed a HIA so not good for those two guys. Everyone I think is OK.”

On the game itself, Peters added: “They’re a very tough team. We knew that beforehand when they have 13 players but they found another leg when they had 12.

“They pushed us right until the end, that could have gone either way. I’m just happy that last 20 minutes I thought we found something when we needed to. They came back and had all the momentum and then we found something at the back end.

“People say you get a lot of learnings when you lose but that’s a game we can take a lot of learnings from. We got the two points which is what we came here to do.”

Hull KR boss gives his take on Cade Cust’s red card

Hull were reduced to 12 after Cade Cust’s red card in the 16th minute of the contest after making shoulder to head contact with Arthur Mourgue.

Asked for his thoughts on the incident, Peters said: “They’re the things you have to have a look at again but it’s one of those where you think, ‘ok, is he off? Yes he is’ and then you worry about your next job, in terms of I was already planning 10 minutes at least, what we going to do off the back of it.”

I hate to disagree with someone of John Cartwright’s record, but Cade Cust simply dropped Arthur Morgue in his footprint, he made no attempt to tackle him, grab him with his hands, wrap him in a tackle, wrestle him down in goal, he just took him out. Contrast that to the yellow card in the Wigan vs Saints match where the player did a late hit, but had his arms out to tackle the player and caught him dropping. In my opinion Cust got a deserved red card. We’ll see what the disciplinary committee has to say.
