Willie Peters has added the sixth piece of the puzzle to his PNG Chiefs side for 2028 with Penrith Panthers standout winger Brian To’o signing to the new club.
Peters will leave Hull KR at the end of the current season and spend all of 2027 building his squad ahead of the Chiefs’ 2028 entry into the NRL, however, it’s fair to say that PNG are already packing plenty of power.
To’o becomes the club’s sixth confirmed signing and it’s fair to say that all six players recruited so far have been massive names.
NRL all-time leading try-scorer Alex Johnston will play on the opposite wing whilst former New South Wales man Zac Lomax will be an option at either centre of full-back as he returns from his spell in rugby union.
Jarome Luai will play in the halves whilst Connor Watson will play at either hooker or loose forward, whilst Super League’s own Matty Lees is the only confirmed prop so far.
The Chiefs have teased a big signing next with player #007, whilst not named, featuring prominently in many of their announcements with Nathan Cleary being a rumoured name to go alongside his former Penrith playing partner Luai.
In new signing To’o, they have recruited another Panthers legend with the Samoan winger having won four NRL premierships and boasting 99 tries in 151 NRL games.
He’s also represented both his state and nation, becoming one of the sport’s finest wingers so it’s no surprise that PNG Chiefs have gone after him so hard.
Speaking on the signing, Chiefs’ General Manager of Football, Michael Chammas, said: “Brian has performed at the highest level of rugby league for many years and knows exactly what is required to create and sustain a winning environment.
“He brings competitiveness, consistency, and an enormous work ethic, but equally important for us is what he brings culturally.”
Peters, who remains committed to Hull KR, did not comment as has been the case with previous signings out of respect for his current job.
