Willie Peters gives Hull KR 2026 recruitment update and hails ‘all in’ Tom Amone

Locking down Tyrone May last week will be the last piece of high profile business Hull KR do heading into 2026, Willie Peters has confirmed.

May has penned a new two-year deal with Rovers and last week’s confirmation brought an end to the uncertainty that has been surrounding the club’s half-back situation moving into next year. The Robins were linked with a move for Lachlan Lam and Adam Reynolds while May’s future was up in the air, but tying him down kills such talk moving forward with the club happy with where their squad is for next year.

With Arthur Mourgue arriving at the club early, Tom Amone and Jumah Sambou are the only new additions announced by the club so far. However, it is understood that Connor Wynne is one name the club have had on their radar for next year and it seems one or two more low key deals could be struck as the club look to fill out their squad.

“You want to lock down key players and he’s a key player, we just wanted to make sure Tyrone wanted to stay for the right reasons and he was here because we wanted to be here, not because he had to,” Peters said. “It’s obviously great that we can lock our spine down but more importantly, we pretty much have the team for next year, there’ll be minimal changes but the majority of it is done.

“Recruitment is always ongoing, there’s not a lot that we will do but there might be one or two announcements that we’ll make once we decide who we’re going to retain and who’s not going to be here next year and then seeing what’s out there. In terms of the higher end market, that’ll be it.”

Hull KR boss on facing Tom Amone

Of course, Rovers will go head to head with one of those names arriving in east Hull next season on Thursday evening when they take on Tom Amone’s Castleford. Amone has based himself in Hull since making the move back to Super League and Peters has kept a keen eye on the forward as he prepares to welcome him into the Robins’ ranks.

As such, he knows exactly what his side can expect from the forward, who will be keen to make an impression on the supporters he’ll playing in front of every week next year.

“I knew what we were getting anyway and it doesn’t surprise me,” Peters said when asked about the forward’s strong form. “It’s good to see that he’s playing well.

“Tom’s the type of guy that whoever he’s playing for, he’s going to be all in. He’s playing against us on Thursday, he’s not in our squad at the moment. I hope he doesn’t go too well on Thursday…”

The Hull KR boss added: “We caught up once and we’ve exchanged a couple of text messages since he’s been here but he’s a Cas player and we respect that. Tom is going to be with next year and I know what Tom Amone is going to turn up on Thursday night and that’s going to be a player that wants to win and he’s going to play with aggression and compete and I’m looking forward to our forwards doing the same.”
