Hull KR head coach Willie Peters is “definitely ready” to coach in the NRL according to his agent, with three possible destinations named.
It’s fair to say that the Hull KR coach is among the most talked-about and sought-after head coaches in rugby league at the moment and that’s evident from the fact that Australia head coach Kevin Walters has hired him as an assistant for the Ashes.
After the Robins’ treble-winning season, Peters is turning plenty of heads Down Under and that’s aided by the fact his agent, Braith Anasta, is commonplace as a big voice and pundit in the NRL.
Anasta has now appeared on the ‘Dead Set Legends’ podcast to go into bat for Peters once again, explaining the significance of Hull KR’s treble and how it makes Peters ‘ready’ for the NRL.
Taking some poetic licence, Anasta claimed that the Robins were ‘at the bottom’ when Peters arrived when they’d actually finished just four points shy of the play-offs and had made it to the semi-finals in 2021.
That doesn’t make their treble any less impressive , with Anasta claiming: “He’s done such a fantastic job over there and I don’t think many guys could have done what he has done.”

Hull KR coach touted for NRL jobs by agent
The groundwork was certainly set by Tony Smith and an incredible board at Hull KR but Peters has taken the Robins to another level, leading Anasta to claim that the 46-year-old is “definitely ready” to coach in the NRL.
Peters snubbed the chance to interview for Newcastle Knights as he wanted to be all in for the play-offs and Anasta made reference to that.
He said: “We had a few approaches this year but I said to him, you don’t want to be the coach that puts your hat in the ring for every job. You want to be the coach who is sought after so go and win the treble and the world is your oyster.
“He’s done the process and the hard work, he is contracted still, but there’s no doubt that if the right job came up here then he’s ready.
“I reckon within the next 12 months, he’ll have a few options. He’s a Souths junior so that’s where his heart is but they’ve got Wayne there at the moment.”
Listing some of the clubs who could seek Peters out, Anasta said: “You look at the clubs and the Cowboys are going to be under pressure, Manly are going to be under pressure, Benji (Marshall) probably starts the season under pressure at the Tigers. I’d like to think, and not that I’m hoping these teams or coaches fail, but I believe he will have a number of opportunities.
“He’s willing to do the hard work so if he had to come back and be an assistant to then take over the year after, he’d do it. He’ll get in the trenches and isn’t one to want to waltz in.”
Peters is contracted at Hull KR until the end of the 2028 season.
