Willie Peters confirms double Hull KR injury concern ahead of Challenge Cup Final

Hull KR will be monitoring both Karl Lawton and Dean Hadley ahead of next Saturday’s Challenge Cup Final with both men picking up injury concerns in the dominant win over Wigan Warriors.

The Robins ran in 11 tries as they beat Wigan 62-4 in a game that literally saw men play against boys, with Hull KR at near full strength against a Warriors side that had 10 debutants and under 80 Super League appearances in the starting XIII.

With the Challenge Cup Final on the horizon, Wigan boss Matt Peet took no chances with suspensions or injuries and it seems that the latter of those could have come back to bite Willie Peters given the concerns regarding Lawton and Hadley.

It was believed that Lawton had left the field due to an issue with his bloodied nose following last week’s game, however, Peters confirmed post-match to Sky Sports that the versatile forward had suffered a rib injury with Hadley picking up a hamstring issue.

“There’s a couple of guys we need to have a look at and see where they’re at,” the Australian confirmed.

“Lawto has got a rib (issue), I wanted to bring a couple of lads off… we’ll have to have a look at him.

“We’ll have to send Dean for a scan just to see where that (hamstring) is at.”

Job done for Hull KR as full-back hailed

One man who came in for high praise from Peters was full-back Jack Broadbent, who ran for over 300 metres, registered two assists and scored one try.

Asked about the versatile back, Peters said: “I think he’s exceptional. We can play him in the halves, we can play fullback, centre wing, and he does the job.

“I was proud of him last week. Obviously, it was a tough decision, I said that openly, and the way he trained that week, he was the best trainer that we had from an effort and attitude-wise.”

As for the game and how Hull KR approached it compared to Wigan, Peters said: “We approached this game to get two points, and we got that. So, yeah, there’s a couple of guys we’re going to have a look at and see where they’re at. We wanted to play at home and get two points and we achieved that.”

The Robins will now focus on recovery ahead of next Saturday’s Challenge Cup Final with particular eyes on how Lawton and Hadley recover.
