Willie Peters and Matt Peet will coach their 14th game against each other in Saturday’s Challenge Cup Final when Hull KR face Wigan Warriors, with the Australian looking to level their overall head-to-head record.
Since Willie Peters’ arrival in England in 2023, Hull KR have faced Wigan Warriors 13 times with the current record marginally in favour of Wigan, seven wins to six.
No other club have beaten Wigan more times in that same period, with KR’s six wins representing 23% of Wigan’s losses in the last three-and-a-half years. It’s no surprise that no other club have a better win percentage against Wigan than Hull KR, and yet Matt Peet still edges the head-to-head record against Willie Peters over those 13 games.

What the last 13 matches tell us about the Peet-Peters era
Recent history points to Hull KR dominance with the last three games all going the way of Hull KR, including the all-important 2025 Super League Grand Final.
However, it’s worth noting that last week’s win can effectively be removed from the data set given Wigan’s rotation. The same can be said of Wigan’s August 2023 win, when Hull KR rotated their squad ahead of the Challenge Cup Final.
Disregarding those results, the record still stands at six wins for Wigan and five for Hull KR but perhaps most important is the fact that the Warriors have a better record in knock-out games. Whilst the two Grand Finals have been split one a piece, Wigan have won two of the three semi-finals that these sides have contested.
Those two wins were by very wide margins in 2023 and 2024 but it’s fair to say that Hull KR are now used to the big games, having won several since then including October’s Grand Final and February’s World Club Challenge.
Hull KR are now proven in those big games and they’re evidently the form team, both in head-to-heads and generally, so it’s easy to understand why they are the betting favourites to lift the trophy on Saturday.
If they manage that then Willie Peters will draw level with his counterpart in head to head wins and it would continue his swansong year ahead of his NRL exit.
