Wigan Warriors youngster puts on attacking masterclass as boss gives verdict on Toulouse Olympique victory

Wigan Warriors boss Matt Peet was left delighted with his side’s away victory over Toulouse Olympique, with one youngster in particular receiving the plaudits.

The Warriors took a 16-0 lead after the opening quarter of an hour, similar to Warrington earlier in the round, however unlike the Wolves, they were able to hold on to that lead, and only allowed the French side to score once in the opening 40.

Zach Eckersley and Adam Keighran both scored doubles, before second half tries from Bevan French, Brad O’Neill and Sam Walters sealed the victory.

Peet was left impressed with is team’s efforts, as they continue their unbeaten run in the early stage of the 2026 campaign.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, the Wigan boss gave his thoughts on the 36-16 win, saying: “[It was a] great performance. Credit to Toulouse, they challenged us big time.

“They posed a lot of problems, but I just liked our start, and when we needed to take it up another notch, I thought we did.

“There’ll certainly be things we’ll look at, and things that technically we could have done better, but it brings a challenge, playing here, in lots of different ways, and I liked the response.”

“Natural talent” – Wigan Warriors youngster praised by boss

Whilst he didn’t get over for a try himself, one man who made everything happen on Saturday evening was Jack Farrimond, who had his hand in four of the seven Wigan tries.

The 20-year-old half-back was given an opportunity due to Jai Field’s injury, and yet again he has shown he is up to the task of being a Super League quality playmaker.

On Farrimond’s development into a fringe first-team player, Peet said:

“[He’s] learning all the time, he has a lot of, I say natural talent, but talent that he’s had for a long time from playing in the junior grades.

“He’s also a great student of the game, and we love working with him.”
