Wigan Warriors prospect Jack Farrimond took his pre-season opportunity against Hull FC with both hands, scoring a try in the 22-18 win.
Farrimond was one of four Warriors scorers on the day, as Junior Nsemba, Jai Field and Liam Marshall – who’s testimonial fixture it was – also crossed.
The 19-year-old featured in place of star half-back Harry Smith, who remains sidelined after having surgery on his wrist this off-season.
This game was yet another where Farrimond took his chance at first-team level, something he has done on almost every occasion in the Warriors’ senior side.
Commenting on the victory, he was glad to get his first appearance of the season out of the way, and said the club will be looking to build on Sunday’s performance.
Speaking on the club website, he said: “It was good to be back out there as like many that was the first game for a long time.
“It was good to get minutes in what was a great contest and a great occasion for Marshy with lots of fans turning up to support – credit to Hull FC as well. There’s still improvements, but it was important to be back out there doing what we’re here for.”
Marshall celebrated his testimonial fixture, as he was honoured for his decade-long service to the Warriors first team. In that time, he has racked up 213 Wigan appearances, and has scored 170 tries.
Farrimond said it was a pleasure to be part of his teammate’s big day, and said how proud he was to see him score the game’s opening try.
He said: “Everyone loves Marshy, and that showed today. To play in his Testimonial is a honour, and it’s a great achievement for him after everything he’s done in the game.
“It was a special moment [him] opening the scoring, which only added to a great occasion for himself and his family.”
Wigan will take on Rochdale Hornets this week, a clash that was last played competitively in December 1994. Farrimond is looking forward to a return to competitive action, in what is the first real test of the 2026 campaign.
He said: “It’s time to turn our attention to the Challenge Cup now that our final pre-season match is out the way. I’m sure next weekend’s visit to Rochdale will be another great occasion, and after that the Super League season starts. We are ready to roll.”
