Wigan Warriors woes continue with star winger set for three months on sidelines

Wigan Warriors have been dealt another injury blow, with winger Liam Marshall set to be out for an extended period.

Marshall hobbled off the field in the club’s defeat to Warrington Wolves on Friday night, and looked to be in pain as he left the action.

He has suffered a significant hamstring injury in that game, and scan results have shown that the try-scoring machine will miss the next 12 weeks, as he becomes the latest key man to be sidelined.

Wigan haven’t had the quantity of injuries as some other teams, but the personnel they have lost shows they have had their fair share of concerns this term.

Losing Jake Wardle for the opening part of the campaign, Jai Field missed three matches whilst Bevan French will miss around four months of the season as a whole.

With Marshall’s blow and Abbas Miski being absent since last year’s Grand Final, the Warriors’ wing options are down to the bare bones.

To make matters worse, their would-be back-up Dayon Sambou has also picked up a lengthy knock, and it set for a similar lay-off, with Wigan revealing he too will be out for around three months.

Sambou sustained an injury in the first half of the match against Castleford, but was able to complete the game. Assessment of the 21 year-old’s injury revealed a PCL tear.

Noah Hodkinson featured on the flank in the reserves for Wigan at the weekend, so he could be an option to replace the 29-year-old this week when the club host Bradford Bulls.
