Wigan Warriors v Warrington Wolves team news as Sam Burgess forced into three changes

Sam Burgess Warrington Wolves

Wigan Warriors take on Warrington Wolves in one of the biggest games at Magic Weekend and the team news has been confirmed with Sam Burgess set to make a major reshuffle.

It will be the second time that these teams have faced off in 2025 with Wigan ‘hosting’ Warrington in Las Vegas in that iconic Round Three match which saw the Warriors easily dispatch Wire.

The final scoreline read 48-24 but Warrington scored all of their points inside the final 15 minutes with Wigan actually leading 42-0 before they took the foot off their opponent’s throats.

Matt Peet will be hoping for more of the same as his side look to extend their four-game winning streak which includes a victory over Super League leaders Hull KR, whereas Warrington will just be looking for some consistency.

Having lost to both Hull FC and Leigh, they bounced back against St Helens but that saw them lost yet more players to injury which means Sam Burgess’ hand has been forced when it comes to squad selection.

Matt Peet doesn’t have the same sort of selection issues with his squad in relatively good shape as just Ethan Havard, who has been out long-term, and Patrick Mago, who recently suffered a quad injury, being those who miss out.

Outside of that pair, Peet is able to name what is essentially his strongest side with Tyler Dupree returning after missing last week due to a failed HIA. He replaces young winger Jacob Douglas.

Both Adam Keighran and Luke Thompson returned last week and the pair are ready to go again whist last year’s Magic Weekend star Jack Farrimond is named in the squad, however, he’ll likely only be called upon in case of a last minute injury.

Wigan Warriors 21-man squad: Jai Field, Abbas Miski, Adam Keighran, Jake Wardle, Liam Marshall, Bevan French, Harry Smith, Brad O’Neill, Luke Thompson, Junior Nsemba, Liam Farrell, Kaide Ellis, Liam Byrne, Kruise Leeming, Tyler Dupree, Harvie Hill, Sam Walters, Zach Eckersley, Tom Forber, Jack Farrimond, Taylor Kerr

Warrington Wolves team news

Sam Burgess, who has responded to reports linking him to an NRL move, faces far more injury issues, namely in his halves with George Williams (ankle) and Marc Sneyd (fractured eye socket) out for extended periods.

Ben Currie spent time in the halves against St Helens but there are other options in Stefan Ratchford, Oli Leyland and youngster Ewan Irwin, who came on as 18th man last week, whilst recent makeshift half Danny Walker is named in the squad despite reports of a knee injury.

Matty Ashton is one of those to drop out with Jake Thewlis possibly set to feature after being recalled from his loan spell with Salford Red Devils. Toby King also misses out but there’s a timely return for Arron Lindop.

Oli Leyland is also named in the absence of Marc Sneyd with the former London man recently spending time at Widnes Vikings on dual registration.

Warrington Wolves 21-man squad: Jordy Crowther, Ben Currie, Matt Dufty, Lachlan Fitzgibbon, James Harrison, Adam Holroyd, Ewan Irwin, Oli Leyland, Arron Lindop, Zane Musgrove, Joe Philbin, Sam Powell, Stefan Ratchford, Dan Russell, Rodrick Tai, Jake Thewlis, Josh Thewlis, Paul Vaughan, Danny Walker, Max Wood, Luke Yates
