Wigan Warriors v St Helens line-ups as Paul Wellens makes massive halfback call

Wigan Warriors v St Helens as Saints halfback Jack Welsby warms up

Game two of the Good Friday triple-header sees Wigan Warriors v St Helens in Super League’s Rivals Round.

Both sides come into the derby on the back of wins with Wigan’s victory over Hull KR being more impressive.

The Warriors brought Hull KR’s unbeaten start to 2025 to an end with a 28-12 away win at Sewell Group Craven Park.

St Helens grabbed a 26-14 win at home to Wakefield Trinity but let a 26-0 lead go in the second half as the Trinity came back at them at the half-time break.

Following their 21-man squad announcements, here’s how both teams line-up for their Good Friday derby.

Wigan Warriors v St Helens line-ups

Wigan Warriors team news

Wigan boss Matt Peet has stuck with the same seventeen that beat Hull KR last time out.

Abbas Miski keeps his place after returning last week and partners Zach Eckersley on the left.

Bevan French and Harry Smith continue in the halves, while Jai Field remains at fullback.

Kruise Leeming starts at hooker with Brad O’Neill remaining on the bench but Peet continues to rotate the pair.

Kaide Ellis keeps his spot at loose forward and plays his first game since signing his contract extension.

Wigan Warriors XIII: Jai Field, Abbas Miski, Zach Eckersley, Jake Wardle, Liam Marshall, Bevan French, Harry Smith, Liam Byrne, Kruise Leeming, Sam Walters, Junior Nsemba, Liam Farrell, Kaide Ellis.

Interchanges: Brad O’Neill, Patrick Mago, Tyler Dupree, Harvie Hill.

St Helens team news

St Helens head coach Paul Wellens has made two changes to the side that beat Wakefield Trinity last Friday.

Mark Percival returns in the centres as Matt Whitley moved to three after youngster Harry Robertson misses out with a quad injury.

Daryl Clark comes back into the squad but only on the bench as Moses Mbye continues at hooker.

Arguably, Wellens’ biggest call is sticking with Tristan Sailor at fullback and Jack Welsby and George Whitby in the halves.

There’s no return for Jonny Lomax, who Wellens admitted is trying to balance his game time in 2025.

Dayon Sambou remains on the bench to cover across the backline should he be needed.

St Helens XIII: Tristan Sailor, Jon Bennison, Matt Whitley, Mark Percival, Lewis Murphy, Jack Welsby, George Whitby, Alex Walmsley, Moses Mbye, Matty Lees, Curtis Sironen, Joe Batchelor, Morgan Knowles.

Interchanges: Daryl Clark, Agnatius Paasi, George Delaney, Dayon Sambou.
