Wigan Warriors have managed to tie down Adam Keighran to a new contract and the Australian has explained the key reason why he’s re-signed, speaking in the aftermath of his Man of the Match performance against Huddersfield Giants.
Matt Peet’s side overcame a 10-0 half time deficit to win 30-10 with Keighran playing a starring role in the halves alongside Harry Smith in the absence of Bevan French and Jack Farrimond.
The Australian centre has previously been used in the halves before but he stood out on Friday night, particularly in the second-half when Wigan looked back to their best after a tough few weeks and a very tough first 40 minutes.
Huddersfield looked well on their way to land a shock win after Wigan put in a poor first-half performance and the Warriors’ latest re-signing spoke post-match on Sky Sports to try and explain what went wrong.
Keighran said: “That first half wasn’t as good as what we’d like but we had old chat at half time and we came out in that second half and did what we had to do.
“I’m so glad that we could do it on such a special occasion as tonight. This crowd haven’t been here for a long time and obviously for Sir Billy Boston as well, so we’re very happy with that one.”

The game was marked as the Sir Billy Boston game with it being the first home match that Wigan played since Boston became rugby league’s first knight of the realm. Pre-match celebrations honoured the Welsh great but it looked like the night was set to be spoiled when the Giants raced into a lead.
Asked what was said at half-time, Keighran explained: “We wanted to get our start right and we wanted to be physical and I don’t think we were as physical as what we wanted to be.
“We came out in the second half and we did that and we got the roll on and the momentum that we wanted.”
As well as being a game to celebrate the great Billy Boston, it also marked the first since Keighran had signed a new three-year deal with Wigan Warriors and he was asked about the key motivation behind inking that new contract.
“They’re so welcoming to my family,” he said of the club, adding: “As soon as we arrived, the (other player’s) partners, the families, the people inside the club and everyone just welcomed us straight away.
“Everyone gets around us when we’re away from family and they take care of us in that way. They put on events to make sure we get around each other and that’s all you can ask for as an overseas player.”
Continuing, the centre explained: “I’ve got great friendships and they’re basically family where I live on my street as well. They make our lives a lot easier and support my wife and kids when I’m at training a lot.
“I’m super stoked to be here for another three years.”
