Watch as Wigan Warriors signing shows Super League what he has to offer ahead of imminent move

Wigan Warriors new recruit Christian Wade being interviewed

Wigan Warriors are on a tear at the moment and they’re only set to get better with the arrival of their new signing Christian Wade, who showed exactly what he has to offer Super League in the final game of his rugby union career.

Wade signed off on his glittering career in the 15-man code with a two-try display as Gloucester defeated Northampton, however, the win was not enough to send the Cherry and Whites into the play-offs.

As such, that means Wade’s time with Gloucester has come to a close and he will set about joining Wigan Warriors as announced on Good Friday.

The pre-match announcement on Good Friday came as a major shock with Matt Peet’s side presenting Wade on the pitch as their incoming arrival, making rugby league the third sport that the 34-year-old has tried his hand at professionally.

Wade’s rugby union career was put on hold as he headed stateside to make it in the NFL, signing a deal with Buffalo Bills before returning to England to sign for Gloucester. He’s now set to try his hand at rugby league with Wigan Warriors snapping him up.

Wigan Warriors’ signing stars ahead of rugby league switch

It had been confirmed that Wade would link up with Wigan once Gloucester’s season was done and their season ended yesterday, despite a 41-26 win over Northampton.

That final game for Wade saw him score two tries including a 60-metre breakaway try in the final minute to cap off his rugby union career in style.

With Super League on hold for a week due to the Challenge Cup Final, Wade can be afforded time to integrate into the Wigan squad before potentially even debuting in Round 14 when the Warriors take on Huddersfield Giants.

He won’t have a chance to play in front of home fans until Round 18 when Wigan again play Huddersfield, with Matt Peet’s side set for four games on the road before that game at the Brick Community Stadium.

With Abbas Miski still recovering from knee surgery, Wade will likely fight it out with utility-back Zach Eckersley and young winger Jacob Douglas who starred against Salford Red Devils.

You can watch Wade’s final try in rugby union in the video below with Super League fans put on notice about what the 34-year-old can do.
