Wigan Warriors send forward on loan to fellow Super League club

Wigan Warriors

Castleford Tigers have bolstered their forward pack with the signing of a Wigan Warriors player.

George Hirst will make the trip across the M62 to West Yorkshire, as he joins Ryan Carr’s side on a one-month loan deal.

The 24-year-old is a welcome addition to the Tigers, and he adds value to a position where they were previously light.

Hirst’s primary position is in the back row, and as it stands, the club only have starters Alex Mellor and Jordan Lane – though other players can fill in if needed.

The Welshman joined Wigan for 2025, moving from Championship side Oldham. He returned to the Roughyeds on a season-long loan, and made 21 appearances across the campaign.

He will now get his first Super League opportunity with the Tigers, should he be selected.

The move comes at a time where Castleford have Brock Greacen on the sidelines and Jack Ashworth serving his suspension, though both of those should be back in the side by round three, meaning Hirst will have to fight to find game time at his new club.

Should they need, he can also play at prop, centre or loose forward.

Castleford have games against Toulouse, Huddersfield and Leeds coming up, as Carr’s Super League career with the Tigers continues to get underway.
