Wigan Warriors quintet make Salford RLFC loan switch

Wigan Warriors have sent five of their rising talents out on loan to the Championship with Salford RLFC naming the quartet to their 20-man squad.

Championship action returns this week with Salford still seeking their first win in the competition after defeats to Oldham RLFC and Barrow Raiders in rounds one and two of the competition.

They fell out of the Challenge Cup last weekend, suffering a 60-0 loss to Hull FC at home, but they’re back at the Corpacq Stadium on Sunday to take on Hunslet.

They’ll be bolstered by the addition of five players from Wigan Warriors with backs Nathan Lowe and Noah Hodkinson, as well as forwards Lukas Mason, George O’Loughlin and Taylor Kerr joining the Championship club.

It’s unclear if it’s a one-week loan, something that the RFL have made possible in 2026, or a longer-term deal though it’s believed to be the former.

Who are Salford’s Wigan Warriors loanees?

Deacon Connolly and Toby Hughes are two other loanees in Salford’s squad with both having previously signed from Widnes Vikings.

As for the Wigan quintet and what can be expected, Hodkinson is a highly-rated full-back who did spend time on loan with Widnes in 2025.

Nathan Lowe spent time on loan with Oldham in 2025 with the centre/winger another highly-rated prospect who has been part of the Warriors’ senior set-up since the 2025 pre-season.

In fact, all of Lowe, Hodkinson, Kerr and Mason were promoted to the senior squad after the club’s 2024 Academy Grand Final win.

Mason is the son of former Super League man Keith, whilst Kerr made his Super League debut for Salford last season, with the loose forward now returning for another loan spell. Meanwhile, O’Loughlin is the son of Wigan coach and club legend Sean.

The quintet are the latest Wigan Warriors men to head out on loan with off-season signing Jonny Vaughan sent to Rochdale Hornets for this weekend’s fixtures.
