The Women’s Super League round two was held over the weekend, as three teams maintained their unbeaten records in the 2025 season.
Wigan Warriors had arguably the best performance of the round, beating Barrow Raiders 106-6.
Whilst scoring nineteen tries from eleven different tryscorers was impressive, coach Denis Betts shared with Wigan’s media that his side are disappointed with allowing the Raiders to add points to the scoreboard.
Sisters Ruby and Eva Hunter both scored hat-tricks, along with Ellise Derbyshire, and kicker Isabel Rowe kicked 15 out of 19 conversions.
Betts said of the victory: “We scored some great tries, we were electric with the ball at times, in not ideal conditions, but we were more disappointed to concede that try.”
Newly-promoted Leigh Leopards also have two wins from two games after they beat Warrington Wolves 42-6 on Saturday afternoon.
The Leopards have scored 42 points in both rounds now, whereas the Wolves are on a 10-match losing streak dating back to last season.
York and St Helens claim Women’s Super League victories in round two
Reigning champions York Valkyrie scored two tries in the last 15 minutes through Emma Kershaw and Tara Moxon to give them a 24-16 win over Leeds Rhinos.
It was a nip-and-tuck game all the way as York led 8-0 going into half-time before Leeds’ Izzy Northrop and Jenna Greening closed the scoreline early in the second half.
However, York never looked fully comfortable in the lead before Moxon’s try five minutes before the full-time hooter sealed the victory for the Valkyrie.
St Helens also grabbed their first win of the 2025 Women’s Super League season with a convincing 36-0 win over Huddersfield Giants.
The Giants had beaten Warrington last week, so were hoping to continue that form against one of the WSL’s strongest sides, but despite only a 10-0 deficit at half-time, Saints looked the part in the second half, running in five more tries.
Rugby union convert Hollie Bawden made her debut for the Saints, getting a try assist for Georgia Sutherland’s try at the start of the second half.
