Matt Peet dealt blow as Wigan Warriors forward handed two-match ban

Matt Peet has been handed a selection blow after one of his Wigan Warriors’ squad has been handed a two-match ban.

Prop forward Harvie Hill has been named in the 21-man squad to take on Castleford Tigers on Saturday night but he’s since been banned by the RFL. He will remain available for that game though, given that the bans handed down on Thursday don’t come into effect until the week after.

Hill was sent off in a reserves match last Saturday as Wigan defeated rivals St Helens. The forward’s tackle on Saints’ man Joel Kilgannon saw Kilgannon stretchered from the field, whilst Hill was sent his marching orders.

He’s now been handed a Grade D charge for Head Contact, worth 12 points, whilst a further three points have been added on top for causing injury.

The only saviour for Hill is the fact that because he was sent off in the second-half of the game, one point is deducted from his penalty tally. He still has been handed 14 penalty points which takes him past the threshold for a two-match ban, starting with next week’s game against Leigh Leopards.

Wigan Warriors man among three banned

The Championship, League One, Women’s and Reserves game disciplinary verdict always comes later in the week and there are a number of other players charged alongside Hill.

Other players charged include former Hull FC man Jeylen Hodgson of Goole Vikings. He was handed a Grade C charge of late contact worth five points, however, because of the penalty points already on his record from a biting incident earlier in the year, he’s handed a three-match ban.

Izaac Farrell of Keighley Cougars has been charged twice, once for head contact and another time for foul language to the referee. That’s seen him handed nine points in total and earn a one-match ban.

Matthew Eden of Salford Red Devils Academy, Leah Schofield of York Valkyrie U19’s and Naomi Williams of St Helens Women were also charged, though none were banned.

News of the bans came via the RFL with Wigan Warriors yet to confirm the ban for Hill.

If short of quality players they’ll just buy or loan at R.L.s expense and with their help
