Wigan Warriors host Leigh Leopards in a repeat of their Round One epic and the team news for both sides is now in.
The season opener at the Brick Community Stadium made history as it ended 0-0 inside 80 minutes with the Leopards winning it in golden point thanks to a Gareth O’Brien drop goal.
It was a match that saw Super League pick up where it had left off with the game played at a play-off intensity in front of over 20,000 fans.
Wigan Warriors have confirmed that ticket sales have surpassed 15,000 for Friday night with Matt Peet’s side knowing that a win would take them atop Super League, at least until Hull KR play Huddersfield Giants on Saturday when the Robins could reclaim top spot.
As for Adrian Lam’s team, they’ll be hoping to respond after their Challenge Cup exit against Warrington Wolves this weekend, knowing that a win would see them leapfrog their hosts and move to second in Super League.
Wigan Warriors team news
Matt Peet confirmed in his presser that winger Abbas Miski will be sidelined for a couple of months after undergoing surgery for his long-standing knee injury, however, he did announce that Patrick Mago would return to the squad.
Jacob Douglas also comes into the fold this week for the Battle of the Borough, with Tom Forber the unfortunate one to drop out for the Cherry and Whites.
It makes for a very strong side with Matt Peet’s key selection choice being whether he plays Zach Eckersley or Jacob Douglas on the wing in Miski’s absence, whilst there will also be a decision to be made on whether to thrust Mago back into the action.
Wigan Warriors 21-man squad: Jai Field, Adam Keighran, Jake Wardle, Liam Marshall, Bevan French, Harry Smith, Brad O’Neill, Luke Thompson, Junior Nsemba, Liam Farrell, Kaide Ellis, Patrick Mago, Liam Byrne, Kruise Leeming, Tyler Dupree, Harvie Hill, Sam Walters, Zach Eckersley, Jack Farrimond, Jacob Douglas, Taylor Kerr
