After Wigan Warriors picked up two big suspensions in this week’s disciplinary, one boost for the side is the outcome of the spitting investigation against Brad O’Neill.
An inquest was opened last week following the Good Friday derby between Wigan and local rivals St Helens, who produced a sensational comeback to defeat Wigan 34-24.
As is expected in a derby as fierce as this one, a coming-together between the two sides occurred and following that Saints forward Jake Wingfield made a formal complaint to referee Jack Smith that O’Neill had spat at him.
The incident was put on report at the time and O’Neill was free to carry on for the remainder of the game.
The RFL have investigated the allegation, but Serious About Rugby League have now learned that there is no case to be heard for the Wigan hooker, and he will not receive a ban.
The news comes as a relief to Warriors fans, who have already seen their side lose both Harry Smith and Sam Walters to three-match suspensions this week.
Also on the suspension list this week is Wakefield Trinity forward Jazz Tevaga, who was given a two-match ban for kicking Liam Marshall, an incident that saw him yellow carded in Sunday’s Challenge Cup quarter-final.
