Wigan Warriors injury news with duo set for return but star out for two months after surgery

Wigan Warriors boss Matt Peet on the sidelines

Wigan Warriors head coach Matt Peet has provided an injury update with two in line to return but another sidelined for a couple of months.

After their Round 10 win over Warrington Wolves at Magic Weekend, Wigan had a week off and the club have opted to take that to book in Abbas Miski for surgery.

The winger has had a knee issue for most of the season with the Lebanon international missing a string of games after the Round Three clash with Warrington Wolves in Las Vegas.

Matt Peet had conceded that it was an injury that would require surgery at some point with Miski being managed until the time came and it seems Wigan Warriors have adjudged that the time is right.

Speaking in his weekly press conference, Peet has confirmed that Miski has undergone surgery and will now be sidelined for a couple of months.

The Wigan Warriors boss revealed: “He’s had his operation so he’ll be a couple of months. He was playing excellent and we’ll miss him, but it’s a good opportunity for others to put their hands up now.”

Wigan Warriors forwards set for return including England international

Among those who could step up and play is youngster Jacob Douglas whilst versatile back Zach Eckersley was used on the wing at times during his absence.

Another option is recent rugby union recruit Christian Wade with Wigan Warriors announcing the former England international’s arrival on Good Friday, ahead of their win over St Helens.

It was confirmed that Wade would link up with the Cherry and Whites once his rugby union season with Gloucester was over, meaning he will be available in the coming weeks and months.

His addition will be a boost but not as much as the positive injury news that Ethan Havard and Patrick Mago are close to returns with Mago set to be named in the squad for this week’s game against Leigh Leopards.

Mago pulled up in the warm-up against St Helens and Peet confirmed the 2024 ever-present would be out for around four weeks, meaning he has recovered as expected.

The bigger news is that Ethan Havard is close to returning with the England international having missed every game so far this season.

On the pair, Peet said: “Both are training with the group. Ethan won’t play this weekend, but Paddy will be in the squad. We have another session for him to get through.”

Wigan will look to avenge their Round One loss against Leigh Leopards, a game that recorded the first ever 1-0 in Super League.
