Wigan Warriors hand out 10 debuts as Hull KR make Mikey Lewis decision

Wigan Warriors head coach Matt Peet has handed out ten debuts for tonight’s Super League clash against Hull KR, with the Cherry and Whites rotating heavily ahead of next week’s Challenge Cup Final against the Robins.

Plenty were expecting changes to both squads given the fact they will face off at Wembley next Saturday, however, eyebrows were raised at just how many changes Matt Peet made with 10 possible debutants named in his 21-man squad.

Just a handful of first-team regulars were named in Zach Eckersley, Junior Nsemba, Patrick Mago, Jack Farrimond and Sam Eseh but not all of those have been named in the matchday squad tonight.

As for Hull KR, their squad saw Arthur Mourgue (pec) and Joe Burgess (shoulder) drop out of the 21 but Willie Peters did concede that he may rotate some key players for those who have been on the outer of the squad, and that has come to fruition.

Hull KR team news

Dean Hadley makes his 150th Hull KR appearance as Willie Peters goes very strong with the only players rotated out being the injured Mourgue and Burgess, as well as Tyrone May.

Ryan Hampshire is the man who partners Mikey Lewis in the halves with the back five unchanged apart from Noah Booth in for Burgess. Karl Lawton starts at hooker again with Jez Litten off the bench, meaning no place for Bill Leyland who is 18th man.

Hull KR XIII: Jack Broadbent; Tom Davies, Peta Hiku, Oliver Gildart, Noah Booth; Mikey Lewis, Ryan Hampshire; Sauaso Sue, Karl Lawton, Dean Hadley; Jai Whitbread, Rhyse Martin; Elliot Minchella

Interchanges: Jez Litten, Tom Amone, Sam Luckley, Jack Brown

Wigan Warriors team news

Only Patrick Mago and Sam Eseh of the senior players remain with Matt Peet making wholesale changes for a near unreognisable squad that is surely packed full of talent for the future.

Even 20-year-old Noah Hodkinson is omitted as he takes on the 18th man jersey with Junior Nsemba, Zach Eckersley and Jack Farrimond all missing out. It means the oldest starters are Tom Forber, who will turn 23 tomorrow, and Sam Eseh who turns 23 next month.

Wigan Warriors XIII: Josh Cartwright; Nathan Lowe, Finlay Yeomans, George O’Loughlin, Austin Daniel; George Marsden, Charlie Yeomans; Sam Eseh, Tom Forber, Kian McDermott; Lewis Daniels, Lukas Mason; Taylor Kerr

Interchanges: Patrick Mago, Finn McMillan, Shea O’Connor, Kallum Rathbone

This “… is a travesty. It’s a travesty of a mockery of a sham of a mockery of a travesty of two mockeries of a sham!”, this brings the sport into disrepute, this is why I cancelled my subscriptions. Wigan should be fined and punished for this. Fans have paid good money to see the two top sides put on a spectacle, not watch Rovers players risk injury or suspension while watching a one sided thrashing. How is the wider sport served by this? It’s an embarrassment. No amount of spin by Sky, excuses from the pundits, can put apply a sheen of lipstick on this pig!
