Hull FC defeated Leigh Leopards 26-12 last night but Wigan Warriors will have been watching the game very closely as their loanee starred.
The Black and Whites put an end to their four-game losing run as they blitzed a tired and “soft” Leigh in the first half, with Adrian Lam very critical of his side’s performance.
Leigh did improve after the half and Hull didn’t add any more points but the damage had already been done as John Cartwright‘s side moved to fifth in Super League.
One of the standout performers was Sam Eseh, the prop forward who is on loan from Wigan Warriors, and his performance set Hull fans’ tongues wagging, whilst triggering some Wigan fans to urge their club to bed him into their own side for 2026.
Eseh joined Wigan ahead of the 2024 season but the 21-year-old is still yet to play for the Cherry and Whites, having been loaned out to three different clubs in 2024 before joining Hull FC on a season-long loan in 2025.
So far, he has played seven times for John Cartwright’s side in 2025 with each performance seeing him take further steps and that’s made him a hot topic of late.
Hull FC and Wigan Warriors fans react to standout Sam Eseh performance
Eseh signed a two-year deal with Wigan but there was an option in the club’s favour, meaning they can extend him for 2026 and after last night’s performance, some Warriors fans urged the club to do just that.
Posting on X, one fan said: “I hope that Sam Eseh’s option is activated and he gets a proper chance at Wigan next season. He’s beefed up at Hull and cut out the errors.
“With Byrne and Hill going he’d be the perfect foil. And it’ll make amends for Hull grabbing Hill.”
Harvie Hill is reportedly set to join the Black and Whites whilst Liam Byrne has been linked with a move to Warrington Wolves, meaning the return of Eseh could be a timely one if Wigan take up that option.
Another fan said: “Sam Eseh has a place at Wigan next year 100% for me if he wants it.”
The prop forward bagged himself a try last night on the edge of half-time and that saw Hull FC fans applauding the 21-year-old as well with several calling on the club to sign him permanently.
One said: “Need to get this lad signed up for 2026! Fear Wigan will see how good he is and keep him though.”
“Sign him up,” and “Sign the kid” were among the other comments with Hull FC and Wigan Warriors fans both keen to see the prop represent them in 2026.
Following Eseh’s recent form, John Cartwright confirmed that Hull would “like to” sign the prop permanently, stating that he’s “got a huge career in front of him if he chooses to”.
