Wigan Warriors have been dealt a hammer blow after scan results confirm the extent of star man Bevan French’s injury.
French, after a starring performance against Toulouse, was substituted prior to full-time, after picking up the knock towards the end of the contest.
A scan on Monday has confirmed that the Australian will be out for 16 weeks with a torn hamstring, in what is the worst case scenario for Matt Peet’s side.
French is one of Super League’s best players, and on his day has the ability to turn any game on it’s head, so not only is it bad news for Wigan, but for the competition as a whole, as one of it’s superstars will be missing for the majority of the season.
What makes the injury worse for Wigan is that they are already without full-back Jai Field, who is suffering with appendicitis, and will be out of action for another month, meaning their two most influential players will be sat in the stands.
Also sidelined are prop Oliver Wilson (Achilles), centre Jake Wardle (knee) and winger Abbas Miski (hamstring), as injuries slowly begin to build for the 2024 quadruple winners.
Wigan take on Bradford Bulls this week in Challenge Cup action, as Peet’s side look to return to the Final for the third time in six seasons.
