Wigan Warriors will more than likely be without Bevan French for the Challenge Cup Final with head coach Matt Peet admitting that it’s likely the Wembley showdown on May 30th will come too soon.
French has been out with a hamstring injury sustained in early March with the initial timeline being reported by the club as 16 weeks, putting a return date at late June or early July, however, there was always hope that the recovery could be quicker than expected.
Peet has confirmed that whilst the star half is set for another scan this week, French won’t be able to play in the Wembley final against Hull KR.
“There’s no particular news with Bevan,” the club’s website quoted Peet as having said in his presser before the clash with Leeds Rhinos on Friday night.
“He’s had a re-scan this week so we’re waiting on the results of that. I remember at the time the question was is the Challenge Cup Final an option, and it wasn’t.
“It’s a few weeks after that, so in my mind, we’re still looking at that period.”

Wigan Warriors boss hails excellent Leeds Rhinos ahead of showdown
It won’t just be French who misses the Challenge Cup Final with Liam Marshall another to be suffering from a hamstring injury, however, the Wigan Warriors boss was able to share some positive news on the winger.
“Today was Marshy’s first day back in after his operation which went as well as it could,” Peet explained with Marshall one of three wingers currently injured, alongside Dayon Sambou (knee) and Abbas Miski, who is still yet to feature this season after hamstring surgery in the off-season.
Previewing Friday’s big game against Leeds Rhinos, Peet praised Brad Arthur’s side as ‘excellent’ with the Australian’s impact obvious according to Peet.
He said: “Since Brad’s been in you can see he’s an excellent coach, who brings out the best in individuals and the team. Leeds have always been an outstanding Club in terms of the talent they have in the local area and they recruit good players.
“We know we have a big test ahead of us and whichever way you look it’s an exciting fixture.”
