Wigan Warriors head coach has questioned if and when his side will finally learn after another below par performance in Super League.
Despite Peet’s disappointment, Wigan did win 28-18 and that’s seen them solidify second place in Super League but opponents Catalans Dragons never went away and had plenty of success in the game.
A key reason for Catalans’ success was Wigan errors and that was evident from kick-off with the Warriors forced into a goal-line drop-out after failing to take Tommy Makinson’s kick successfully.
They did manage to defend multiple sets on their line and would score in their first attempt with good territory, at which point you expected the Cherry and Whites to kick into gear but it never quite happened.
“Elements of performance were really pleasing and there are some that we will take a look but yeah, it’s two points,” Peet confirmed when speaking post-match on Sky Sports.
He paid credit to the team’s young players with each of Jacob Douglas, Zach Eckersley and Jack Farrimond impressing, as Peet noted: “That’s why we have them in the squad, that’s what the club’s built on, like many other Super League clubs who want to develop the next generation.”
However, he underlined: “There’s certain things that we’ve got to do better than that as well.”

When pressed on that, he cited the second-half performance as a key reason with Wigan actually losing the second forty 18-12, something Peet put down a ‘disrespect for the ball’
He argued: “Our failure to respect the ball in the second half. Credit to Catalans, as ever, they came and competed as I knew they would and they made it difficult, but at times I thought we had a disrespect for the ball, which invited pressure, and then the penalties come, and so on.
“I’ll say we’ll learn but we’re going to run out of time if we don’t learn soon. It’s happened previously, and we’ve got to fix that, for sure.”
It’s a telling criticism from the Wigan Warriors head coach with his side having struggled massively in recent weeks, no doubt due to the injury crisis they’re going through.
With the likes of Bevan French, Abbas Miski and Luke Thompson all still missing, the question is whether they can return and get back to action to find form before the play-offs in two months time.
One thing that could aid an end-of-season push is the majority of their final seven games being at home but Peet dismissed that as ‘irrelevant’.
Instead, he said: “I think it’s an attitude thing, I wish we would have fixed it in round two but yeah, you’re right, we’ve got to take this opportunity to look at ourselves and decide what we want to achieve at the back end of the year. I’m really looking forward to it.”
