Wigan Warriors boss issues injury update on Adam Keighran

Wigan Warriors

Wigan Warriors boss Matt Peet has confirmed that Adam Keighran will be fit enough to take on Catalans Dragons on Saturday afternoon.

That news will come as a relief to Warriors fans, after seeing Keighran pick up a knee injury in the win over Wakefield Trinity on Sunday afternoon. The centre was withdrawn from the contest in the second half having already handed over goal kicking duties to Harry Smith.

However, Peet has moved to allay any fears of a lay-off by confirming Keighran had just taken a knock and he will be with the side that travels to Perpignan this week.

Peet has also confirmed that Tyler Dupree will come back into the mix after being rested last weekend and he looks set to replace Ethan Havard in the line-up, with the England international set to miss the game through suspension.

“He will be available as it was just a bang,” Peet said on Keighran, per the Warriors’ website. “We’ve lost Ethan so I just need to decide the direction we go in.

“Tyler has played a lot of minutes and he’s training the house down with determination to add to the team and take his performances to the next level. He’ll be the most likely to play, but we’ll consider some of our young players as well.”

The Warriors know that only a win will do in the south of France as they strive to keep hold of their spot in the top two and keep their faint hopes of claiming the League Leaders’ Shield alive.

However, Peet isn’t naïve enough to expect an easy night in Perpignan, with Catalans making small steps towards improvement under Joel Tomkins.

“You can certainly see the progress and foundations being laid,” Peet said on the Dragons. “Catalans will be proud in their final home fixture of the year and they have a few players moving on.

“There’s a healthy and mutual respect between the clubs which means we often see a good level of performance. It will be a challenge as Joel will have his side ready to go, so we have to make sure we improve this weekend.”
