Wigan Warriors head coach Matt Peet has revealed that teenage half-back George Marsden had to leave a training session early in order to complete his exams, highlighting just how young the incredible talent is.
Marsden was clearly unfazed by the fact that he is balancing the stress of exam season with the demands of playing Super League, as evidenced by his incredible solo try before the break.
As if in competition, fellow youngster Jack Farrimond went and scored one that was arguably better and speaking post-match, Matt Peet’s comments were shared via the Wigan Warriors’ website.
On the pair, he said: “Those were our backup half-backs that played against Toby Sexton and Lewis Dodd, and they more than held their own.
“I’m very pleased for George, he’s still got a few exams to go yet and he had to leave training the other day to get away to his exam. He’s a very level head on his shoulders, he buys into the information we’re giving him and he’s got a bright future.”
On 20-year-old Farrimond, Peet added: “Jack, being the veteran of the partnership, he had some classy moments as well – really proud.”

Wigan Warriors boss gives verdict after huge Paris win
Just a week after putting 40 on Hull KR in the Challenge Cup Final, Wigan backed it up by winning 40-16 against Catalans Dragons in a special event in Paris, celebrating 20 years of the Perpignan club in Super League.
It would have been easy to fold and not back up the Wembley performance but that never looked likely given how strong Wigan performed, and on that performance, Peet assessed: “We knew it would have a big game feel about it so any result would have been a positive one, but it was the manner of the performance as well. I’m particularly pleased of the effort and energy we invested into the start of the game.”
On the occasion and the fact Wigan had now played at Wembley and in Paris, two show-piece events back-to-back, Peet explained how the club had prepared mentally.
He said: “We’ve spoken about it for a while, but about how exciting it could be to follow up a Challenge Cup win with a chance to go to Paris with our best mates, supporters, friends and family. That’s how we’ve shaped it and the lads certainly responded.”
There was also big praise for the club’s travelling support, as Peet said: You look at our support today, all in the pink jerseys, it felt like a good celebration for the Club. I know it’s demanding on our supporters financially and time wise, but I hope those that could commit have had a fantastic weekend.
