Leeds Rhinos and Wigan Warriors were among the four sides who booked their place in the women’s Challenge Cup semi-finals, as double header fixtures with the men have now confirmed.
Wembley has long been the destination for the final of the men’s Challenge Cup Final but it’s only been in recent years that the women’s game has also been played at the national stadium.
That change has seen the calendars for both competitions sync up from the semi-final stage onwards with double headers confirmed for the final four, and after this weekend’s women’s Challenge Cup quarter-finals, we now know who will play where.
Wigan Warriors and St Helens had progressed to meet each other in the men’s competition with Hull KR and Warrington Wolves booking their slot in the other semi-final.
Both Wigan and Saints’ women’s teams have now also made it to the semi-finals, albeit on different sides of the draw with Denis Betts’ side the team who are set to play a double header with their men’s team.
Wigan Warriors will face York Valkyrie at Warrington’s Halliwell Jones Stadium on Saturday, May 9th in an 11:30 am kick-off with Wigan’s men then facing St Helens in the afternoon.
It means the other women’s Challenge Cup semi-final pits Leeds Rhinos against St Helens at 1:00 pm on Sunday, May 10th at the Eco-Power Stadium in Doncaster, with Hull KR and Warrington set to play later in the afternoon.
Wigan had booked their spot in the semi-finals with a dominant 112-0 win over London Broncos that saw Izzy Rowe score 44 points. Saints and Leeds put 68 on Barrow and Cardiff respectively, whilst Leon Pryce’s York beat Huddersfield 34-10.
