Wigan Warriors and Hull KR stars handed multi-game bans in final Super League disciplinary verdict of 2025

The final Super League disciplinary verdict of the 2025 season has been heard with two players handed bans after the Grand Final, including retiring star Jared Waerea-Hargreaves who has copped a total of four matches.

Hull KR made history as they completed the treble, defeating Wigan 24-6 in an impressive Old Trafford performance which saw Mikey Lewis claim the Rob Burrow award as Man of the Match.

Lewis put the pressure on Bevan French to ensure the Wigan star dropped a certain try over the line and the Hull KR talisman then opened the scoring with a darting run, as the Robins used their man advantage.

That man advantage came after Wigan hooker Brad O’Neill was sent to the sin bin for a tip tackle on Tyrone May, a point on which the game turned as Lewis and Joe Burgess scored, and now that tackle has been punished further by the Super League disciplinary system.

The Match Review Panel met for the final time this year to discuss Super League disciplinary matters and they have handed down six charges across four men, resulting in a total of six games in bans.

Super League disciplinary sends Jared Waerea-Hargreaves out with four-game ban

Whilst O’Neill has been charged and banned for that tackle, the headline news is two separate two-game bans for retiring Hull KR star Jared Waerea-Hargreaves.

Of course, they will have no effect whatsoever but it’s perhaps a fitting end to the career of a man who spent so much of it playing right up to the line in terms of being physical.

The Match Review Panel have now ruled that he twice overstepped that line on Saturday night at Old Trafford, charging him with a shoulder charge on Bevan French and then another charge of ‘other contrary behaviour’.

They are Grade B and Grade A charges respectively but because of the record that the Kiwi has, they both warrant two-game bans meaning any unlikely hopes of a comeback would be thwarted as he will be banned for four games.

Brad O’Neill is also banned for two matches after his Grade D charge and that could have impacted his England selection as those bans carry over into the international sphere. As it is, he will miss two pre-season games.

Liam Farrell was also charged twice meaning he now has three points on his disciplinary record, whilst Adam Keighran’s Grade A charge takes him to five penalty points, one away from a ban.

It means both Keighran and O’Neill will start next season walking disciplinary tightropes.

TWO BLATANT elbows. I saw one elbow to a player directly behind JWH, so unless he has the proverbial eyes in the back of the head or esp, I’d say it was an accident, but that won’t be good enough for you. Oh, by the way, the video ref can only rule on things the referee on the pitch asks him to.
Still, you can trust the RFL. Banning a player who has retired. About as effective as deducting two points from Salford.
