Championship side Widnes Vikings have been forced to move their upcoming fixture against Newcastle Thunder to an alternate venue, and have landed the help of a Super League club as a result.
The Vikings’ home ground, the DCBL Stadium, is set to have repairs on it on the original date of the club’s 1895 Cup quarter-final fixture against Thunder, meaning the facility is unable to be used.
It has also been reported elsewhere that a pre-planned wedding is another reason for the Vikings to have to move stadiums.
As a result, Widnes were forced to ask around the local area to try and find a replacement stadium, and Wigan Warriors have come to their aid.
The Vikings will take on Newcastle at Robin Park Arena, Wigan’s training ground and the venue for their reserves and academy fixtures.
Clubs of varying sports including Warrington Wolves, Widnes RUFC and Runcorn Linnnets were asked by the club, but eventually it was the Warriors who were able to offer support.
The tie will take place ono Sunday 17 May, but with capacity at the stadium limited to just 1,000, it means that tickets are extremely limiteed and supporters are advised to secure tickets early to avoid disappointment.
