The 2025 Challenge Cup Final attendance has been confirmed and it’s the second highest since 2017, but slightly down on last year’s figure.
RFL Commercial were hoping for a 65,000 crowd to beat last year’s total of 64,845 when Wigan Warriors faced Warrington Wolves.
However, the attendance didn’t quite reach that mark, with 63,278 fans turning up to watch Hull KR face Warrington.
Over 15,000 Rovers fans travelled down to Wembley with the club to see their club come out on top, as well as many who take a trip to Wembley annually anyway.
The figure may not have quite been reached that the RFL were hoping for, but could that be due to back-to-back Wembley trips for the Wolves as well as two trips in three years for the Robins?
Challenge Cup final attendances have been on the decline since 2017, especially, but the last tw years have seen a slight increase.
Since 2015, Rovers fans have had to travel three times to Wembley, with 2025 being their only success.
Warrington supporters were on their fifth trip in ten years and have also had just one trophy lift in 2019.
With only four trophies up for grabs most seasons on this side of the world, it’s a hot topic amongst fans, pundits and rugby league’s hierarchies alike as to whether the magic of the Cup is still alive or not.
However, seeing the celebrations of the Hull KR contingent on Saturday afternoon after only their second Challenge Cup trophy lift in their club’s history, it does show there is plenty of love and respect for the silverware.
Whilst many fans noted that the top tier at Wembley wasn’t filled, the bottom tier was certainly jam-packed with Hull KR, Warrington and neutral fans around the stadium.
Should the Cup final be moved away from Wembley to increase crowds? After all, it’s a trek for most rugby league fans from the north.
However, with 2026’s plans already in place, it looks like the Challenge Cup final is staying at Wembley for the foreseeable future.
