“We should’ve iced a few”: Willie Peters on Hull KR missed first-half opportunities after Leeds Rhinos loss

Hull KR boss Willie Peters interviews post-match

Hull KR coach Willie Peters was disappointed with his side’s loss against Leeds Rhinos, but he knew it would be a tough one going into the game.

The Robins let an 8-0 half-time lead slip, and also let a handful of chances slip through the fingers during the first half.

Leeds’ intensity got the better of Rovers in the second half, where they suffered just their second loss of 2025 with a 14-8 scoreline.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Peters gave credit to Leeds and stated that his Hull KR side were simply not good enough on the day.

He said: “Yeah, we said before the game that it was a big game. We knew we were playing against a very good team today.

“Leeds thoroughly deserved it, we had a chance in that first half, we should’ve iced a few. I wasn’t happy with the start of the second half, and obviously, they got us in the back end.

“They certainly move the ball, and then we lost field position. We got stuck in our half for a long time. When we finally got some field position, our attack wasn’t on in that second half.”

Hull KR boss on losing Mikey Lewis and how his side has to adapt

Hull KR lost star halfback Mikey Lewis in the 28th minute to an HIA, which he later failed.

Jez Litten stepped into his role, which he has done previously this season, but it didn’t quite work out in this match.

However, Peters was more optimistic for next week’s game against Leigh Leopards, provided they spend time reviewing what went wrong and adapting their style to play.

Peters added: “When you take one of our halves out, or any key half out of most teams, it can look different, but we don’t want it to look totally different.

“We didn’t really look like scoring in the second half, and in the first half, we were a threat with the ball.

“We’ll have a look at a few things next week, but we always work on our defence as number one. Certainly, we need to have a look at things there.”

Nobody has a word to say on the Leeds 14th player on the pitch Chris Kendall? I wouldn’t let him officiate a game of snakes and ladders let alone top flight rugby league. In my opinion he’s the single worst official since the early 1990s.
