Wigan Warriors boss Matt Peet was thrilled that his side managed to dig in until the very end to claim victory over Huddersfield Giants on Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors looked to be suffering just their third loss of the Super League season, but a last-second Jack Farrimond score saw them turn an 18-16 deficit into a 22-18 win.
Peet thought that instead of picking apart their performance, he wanted to credit his players for playing for the full eighty minutes.
Speaking to Sky Sports post-match, the Wigan Warriors boss said: “Obviously, I was made up with the fact that we didn’t stop playing and that we found a way to get over.
“I was even more delighted that it was Jack, so I never doubt this group.
“It was a bit of a throwback game today, a very unique challenge, but I just like the way we had belief throughout, stuck at it against some interesting challenges.”
Wigan Warriors boss: “We embrace the challenge”
The Wigan Warriors boss was happy that his team could grind out a win under such circumstances.
Playing the Giants at Dewsbury’s Flair Stadium meant a smaller but louder crowd compared to the John Smith’s Stadium, and a significantly smaller pitch.
That affected Harry Smith’s kicking game, but ultimately, it didn’t matter as they grabbed a victory in the end.
Peet added: “We got the job done, so that’s all that matters.
“We embrace the challenge, but when you can come here on a narrow field under these circumstances, and you get the win and your young halfback gets the winning try, you go home really happy.”
The Warriors now face a string of away games against Wakefield Trinity, Castleford Tigers, and Leigh Leopards before a celebratory home game for Sir Billy Boston’s knighthood against Huddersfield Giants on Friday 11th July.
