Warrington Wolves youngster lands permanent deal after Super League release

Former Warrington Wolves forward Lucas Green has landed a new club, following his release from the Super League side at the end of the season.

Green will link up with Championship side Keighley Cougars in 2026, after a successful loan spell at the same team in 2025.

The prop, who can also play loose forward, spent the entire campaign at Keighley, featuring 18 times for them across the year.

The 21-year-old has featured for Wire in seven senior matches, with the last of those coming in a one-point defeat to Wigan Warriors in June 2024.

He had also spent time learning his trade at North Wales Crusaders, Bradford Bulls, Swinton Lions and Widnes Vikings, with all of those moves being short-term loan deals.

One of nine players to exit the Halliwell Jones Stadium come the season’s end, Green is the latest to have found a new club, and joins the likes of Dan Russell (Bradford), Tom Whitehead (Hull KR) and Paul Vaughan (York) in securing their futures ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Warrington revealed in their statement confirming the released players that fellow youngsters Nolan Tupaea and Zac Bardsley-Rowe had found new clubs, but their next destinations are yet to be announced.

Commenting on his permanent move to Yorkshire, he said: “I’m excited to be signing for Keighley for the 2026 season.

“I was on loan here all last year and loved it so I’m buzzing to be back. We had a disappointing season, so I’ll be trying to put my best foot forward to make sure this year is better than last year.

Head coach, Alan Kilshaw, added: “We are delighted to have secured Lucas for the upcoming season.

“Over the off-season, we have worked hard to recruit younger players to better balance the squad, bringing the average age down to 25. We want these players to develop, grow and come on the journey with us at Keighley.”
