For the second week running, Warrington Wolves will take on Leigh Leopards – only this time a place in the Challenge Cup semi-finals are at stake.
The Wolves were rampant on Saturday afternoon, and ran in seven tries to defeat Adrian Lam’s men 42-6 at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
Matty Ashton scored twice as five other players got on the scoresheet in a complete performance by Sam Burgess’ side.
However, whilst their opponents may be the same, both sides are set to look different to the 17’s they put out on Saturday afternoon, with the pair both hoping to welcome back some injury returnees.
Boss Burgess said post-match that he hopes that almost all of his currently injured players will be ready for action this weekend, with only Toafofoa Sipley set to miss out.
Jordy Crowther is also set to be ruled out after fracturing his cheekbone in the win, but barring that the Wolves could be at full-strength.
How Warrington Wolves could line-up against Leigh Leopards
Sam Burgess confirmed that star full-back Cai Taylor-Wray would feature this week against the Leopards. He is expected to come straight back into the side, meaning a decision will have to be made on whether Josh Thewlis or Josh Smith gets the right wing spot.
The centres are set to remain the same, with Toby King expected to play the full 80 in the three-quarters, as opposed to moving to full-back like he did on Saturday.
Ewan Irwin was dealing with a niggle that kept him out of Rivals Round, and with a knock-out game like this Marc Sneyd’s experience will be vital, so it is likely the veteran keeps his spot this week.
Moving into the forwards, Luke Yates and Kelepi Tanginoa are expected to return, meaning that the boss will have some selection headaches to contend with. Liam Byrne and Luke Thomas started the game at the weekend, but it is likely that Yates comes in for Thomas this week, despite the youngster impressing on his first Super League start this season.
Tanginoa and James Bentley will be battling it out for the starting back row spot, with the other set to feature from the bench. Jordy Crowther’s fractured cheekbone means that there is a place on the bench up for grabs, and Tanginoa has been a regular amongst the substitutes this season so it could be him that is used as an impact player.
