Warrington Wolves Super League fixture moved ahead of Challenge Cup final

Warrington Wolves

Warrington Wolves have confirmed that one of their upcoming Super League fixtures has moved in the run-up to their Challenge Cup Final against Hull KR.

Wire booked their spot at Wembley with a win over Leigh Leopards this past Sunday as Sam Burgess’ side overcame a slow start to win 21-14.

As such, the last two defeated Challenge Cup finalists will face off with either Hull KR or Warrington Wolves set to end a trophy drought, albeit the Robins’ drought being far longer.

That game will take place on Saturday, June 7th at the national stadium and it’s now been confirmed that Warrington’s Super League fixture a week prior has been moved.

Warrington Wolves were initially set to play Castleford Tigers on Sunday, June 1st but that game has now been moved to the Friday night, seemingly to allow them the same turnaround as Challenge Cup Final opponents Hull KR who play St Helens that same night.

Warrington Wolves v Castleford Tigers fixture moved

The change was announced by both Warrington Wolves and Castleford Tigers. The match is set to be played at Wire’s Halliwell Jones Stadium on Friday, May 30th for an 8 pm kick-off.

Castleford also confirmed that the team’s academy sides will also face off in a curtain-raiser with that game slated for a 5:35 pm start.

In recent years, the Super League game before Wembley for the finalists has been an interesting one with different teams approaching it in different ways.

Hull KR fielded a team packed full of youngsters against Wigan Warriors ahead of their 2023 Challenge Cup Final, with the young Robins being beaten 64-0 that night.

Last year, Wigan played Warrington a week before they faced off at Wembley and whilst Matt Peet went with a strong side, Sam Burgess rested plenty.

Wigan nicked the win despite a scare but they saw bans handed to Adam Keighran and Tyler Dupree meaning they both missed the clash at Wembley.

All eyes will be on how Hull KR and Warrington line up against St Helens and Castleford Tigers respectively in Round 13 of Super League.
