Warrington Wolves star makes long-awaited return as Castleford Tigers forced into changes

Warrington Wolves have seen star man Matty Ashton return after ten months out with the team news confirmed for their clash against Castleford Tigers.

Ashton is named in a Warrington team for the first time since suffering a season-ending injury in the Challenge Cup semi-finals against Leigh Leopards in a major boost for Warrington.

Sam Burgess’ side look to keep their unbeaten start to the season up whilst visitors Castleford have won just once so far, beating out winless Huddersfield Giants.

The game, which kicks off at 3:00 pm, is televised live on BBC Two and preparations are underway with team news now confirmed.

Warrington Wolves team news

Matty Ashton returning is the biggest story, however, Marc Sneyd remaining out is also a notable absence. Young talent Ewan Irwin retains his place from last week’s Challenge Cup victory, where Burgess named plenty of youth.

That means the likes of Luke Yates, Liam Byrne and Kelepi Tanginoa all return with all three starting in the pack, where Toafofoa Sipley is a notable absence given his knee/ankle injury.

Lachlan Webster retains his place in the squad after last week’s debut, however, he is named on the bench instead alongside James Harrison, Jordy Crowther and Joe Philbin.

Warrington Wolves XIII: Josh Thewlis, Josh Smith, Toby King, Albert Hopoate, Matty Ashton, George Williams, Ewan Irwin, Luke Yates, Danny Walker,  Liam Byrne, Sam Stone, Kelepi Tanginoa, Ben Currie

Interchanges: James Harrison, Jordy Crowther, Joe Philbin, Lachlan Webster

Castleford Tigers team news

Castleford have made a host of changes, most of which have been enforced with Krystian Mapapalangi missing out due to a failed HIA. He is replaced by debutant Semi Valemei.

Liam Hood and Ashton Golding both miss out meaning George Lawler plays at hooker with Aidan Doolan the option off the bench.  A shortage of props means Jack Ashworth starts up front with Jimmy Beckett and Renouf Atoni options off the bench.

Castleford Tigers XIII: Zac Cini, Mikaele Ravalawa, Darnell McIntosh, Semi Valemei, Jason Qareqare, Daejarn Asi, Tom Weaver, Brock Greacen, George Lawler, Jack Ashworth, Jordan Lane, George Hirst, Joe Stimson

Interchanges: Aidan Doolan, Sam Hall, Renouf Atoni, Jimmy Beckett
