Warrington Wolves host St Helens in their third meeting in recent weeks and the team news for both sides has now been confirmed.
It’s 2-0 to Warrington so far in this three-game spell, although it’s actually six wins in a row for the Wolves when coming up against the Red Vee with Sam Burgess yet to lose in the fixture. You have to go back to the 2023 play-offs for the last time St Helens won one of these match-ups, something Saints will be keen to fix on Thursday night.
Both teams enter the game on the back of defeats with St Helens falling to Wigan in the Good Friday derby and Warrington losing to Leigh a day later, a result which has left them ninth in Super League though they are still just two points behind Paul Wellens’ side.
A win wouldn’t see them leapfrog the Red Vee due to Saints’ superior points difference but it would end the two-game losing streak and restore plenty of faith in the side who struggled without George Williams on Saturday.
The 21-man squads for Thursday’s game have now been confirmed.
Warrington Wolves 21-man squad to face Saints
Williams will be out for the next two months so Warrington will have to find a way to win without their captain with Saturday’s solution seeing Danny Walker named in the halves and the England hooker is once again named in the squad this week.
Sam Burgess makes just one change as James Harrison returns and Oli Leyland drops out. The playmaker started at full-back for Widnes Vikings on Good Friday and his omission from the 21-man squad suggests that Burgess could continue to use Danny Walker in the halves.
Wire’s academy is unbeaten in 2025 and their star half Ewan Irwin is named in the 21-man squad once again meaning he could be considered to play alongside Marc Sneyd.
Warrington Wolves 21-man squad: 1. Matt Dufty, 2. Josh Thewlis, 3. Toby King, 4. Rodrick Tai, 5. Matty Ashton, 8. James Harrison, 9. Danny Walker, 10. Paul Vaughan, 11. Ben Currie, 12. St Helens 21-man squad to face Wire
George Whitby was favoured in the halves over Jonny Lomax but both men make the 21-man squad as Paul Wellens makes just one change to his 21-man squad.
That sees Joe Batchelor (hamstring) make way with young centre Owen Dagnall stepping in after recovering from a quad tear that had ruled him out earlier this year. Dagnall’s only game for St Helens so far came in the Challenge Cup against West Hull so he is in line for a Super League debut.
Daryl Clark and Moses Mbye are both named with Clark limited in minutes on Good Friday but he should be fitter as a result of that run out. Kyle Feldt (hand) remains out meaning Jon Bennison and Lewis Murphy will be the likely starters on the wing, with Dayon Sambou also in the frame.
St Helens 21-man squad: 1. Jack Welsby, 4. Mark Percival, 5. Jon Bennison, 6. Tristan Sailor, 7. Jonny Lomax, 8. Alex Walmsley, 9. Daryl Clark, 10. Matty Lees, 11. Curtis Sironen, 13. Morgan Knowles, 14. Moses Mbye, 16. Matt Whitley, 17. Agnatius Paasi, 19. George Delaney, 20. Lewis Murphy, 21. Noah Stephens, 22. Ben Davies, 23. Jake Burns, 27. George Whitby, 29. Dayon Sambou, 30.
