Warrington Wolves have announced that Parramatta Eels forward Ryan Matterson will join them on loan until the end of the season, giving the Wire some added strength and aggression in their pack.
Matterson has found game time hard to come by this season, only featuring four times in first grade NRL, whilst only appearing seven times in reserve grade.
His family have links to the UK, with his uncle, Terry, playing for London Broncos in the 1990’s before he took up a coaching role at Castleford from 2006-2011.
Wolves head coach Sam Burgess spoke on his most recent addition, saying how pleased he was to get someone of Matterson’s calibre to join the squad at this point of the season.
Speaking to the Wolves’ club website, he said: “It’s great to add a player of Ryan’s quality to our squad as we approach the back end of the season.”
He added: “His power and presence through the middle, combined with his vast NRL experience, will bring a lot of value to our pack.”

The 30-year-old said: “I’m excited to be joining Warrington for the rest of the 2025 season and can’t wait to get over there.”
He continued: “Once I touch down, it’s straight to work. I’m coming in ready to make a real impact and help drive the team towards the play-offs. I’m looking forward to experiencing the Super League and embracing the challenge. I can’t wait to feel the energy and passion of the Warrington fans.”
Matterson will travel over to the UK this week, and the split round of fixtures has come at a good time for the club, as it will allow him to come over and get settled before the Wolves’ next fixture.
He is in strong contention to make his Super League and Warrington debut against Leigh Leopards on August 1.
