Warrington Wolves boss Sam Burgess is fearing the worst regarding the injury Jordy Crowther picked up at Castleford Tigers on Sunday. Crowther came off the bench in the first half of the Wolves’ 20-14 defeat at The Jungle, but had to be withdrawn at the break after dislocating his elbow during the contest.
The forward managed to play on for a few minutes after suffering the injury with his arm hanging limp by his side, but he was spotted sitting in the dugout in the second half with a sling on his arm. It came as a big blow for Burgess, who was forced to ask Stefan Ratchford to play at hooker late in the second half to spell Sam Powell.
Warrington have seen a number of players ruled out for the remainder of the season of late, with Rodrick Tai being the latest due to a pectoral injury. Burgess stopped short of saying Crowther will join that list but he did admit the issue didn’t look too good.

“He dislocated his elbow, it went back in quickly enough but they did a test on it at half-time and it came straight back out,” Burgess said when asked by Serious About RL about the injury.
“He’s obviously done a bit of damage in there I imagine. It’s probably not the best news for him.”
“Elbow joints can be complex, it just depends what damage has been done but there’s obviously a little bit if it dislocates so easily at half-time on a test.”
Josh Thewlis passed a HIA during the game, but Marc Sneyd was forced off the field in the second half as he started to struggle with the groin injury he picked up last week at Catalans Dragons. Fortunately Warrington had Ewan Irwin on the bench.
“He carried a niggle into the game and he was 50/50 to play and he looked to be labouring in the last 30 minutes of the game,” Burgess added.
“I thought it was a good opportunity to see Ewan Irwin out on the field and see if he could do something and try and bring us back into the game. I thought it was a good opportunity to given Ewan a test on the back foot.”
Warrington have a little under two weeks until their next game against Leigh Leopards, who are Super League’s form team, and they could find themselves boosted by the return of Danny Walker, who has been out since April after picking up a knee injury.
“Danny is close, I think he’ll be very close,” Burgess confirmed when asked the possibility of Walker returning ahead of the next game. “That will be a good addition to us.”
