How Warrington Wolves could line up against Hull KR with George Williams and Stefan Ratchford roles predicted

Warrington Wolves are looking to go one better than last year and we’ve predicted how they could line up in the Challenge Cup Final, as they face the daunting task of defeating Hull KR.

The Robins have lost just once in 2025 with that defeat coming at the hands of Wigan Warriors, the same side who beat Warrington at Wembley last year to deny them a Challenge Cup victory.

Saturday’s final pits the 2023 and 2024 runners-up against one another meaning it will be an even sweeter victory and an even more punishing loss for the sides finishing up either side of the coin.

Warrington know that they’re not the favourites but they’re using that to their advantage and embracing the underdog tag whilst mounting the pressure on Hull KR, who are arguably the only side who need a trophy more than the Wolves do.

That pressure of ‘since 1985’ seems to outweigh that of ‘it’s always our year’ and with a cool coach like Sam Burgess, Wire will be hoping they don’t fold under the pressure.

Predicted Warrington Wolves line-up for the Challenge Cup Final

George Williams’ return is the biggest boost for Warrington, that’s if he does play. Williams and Wire are insistent that he will whilst Willie Peters has claimed Hull KR always knew he would, with the Robins not buying into the ‘theatre’ of the speculation he might miss out.

Whilst he’s set to play, Williams won’t be at 100% and that begs the question of whether you carry Stefan Ratchford on the bench as cover with the veteran playmaker bagging a try on his 350th appearance as a Wire player last week.

Sam Burgess has confirmed that Ratchford will be named on the bench with the veteran able to cover both half and centre, the two positions where Warrington recall players from injury (George Williams and Toby King).

It means young Ben Hartill misses out and means that Sam Powell would have to play 80 minutes, however, he’s proven that he can do that. Jordy Crowther is also able to play hooker so provides that option from the bench anyway along with James Harrison and Joe Philbin, who has been monumental in recent weeks. Max Wood is the unlucky man to miss out.

Another selection decision Sam Burgess will have to make is in the outside backs with all four of Arron Lindop, Rodrick Tai, Connor Wrench and Toby King named. We’re expecting Lindop to shift to the wing and Tai and King to be named in the centres with Wrench, and fellow outside back Jake Thewlis, both missing out.

Warrington Wolves XIII: Matt Dufty; Arron Lindop, Rodrick Tai, Toby King, Josh Thewlis; George Williams, Marc Sneyd; Luke Yates, Sam Powell, Paul Vaughan; Lachlan Fitzgibbon, Adam Holroyd, Ben Currie

Interchanges: Jordy Crowther, James Harrison, Joe Philbin, Stefan Ratchford
