Warrington Wolves star “fast-tracked” as injury update given

Warrington Wolves faced Hull KR without a host of stars due to injury and one has provided an update on their race to return.

That man is England captain George Williams with the playmaker absent after having undergone surgery in April due to an ankle injury.

Williams previously confirmed his intent to return for the Challenge Cup Final as he revealed that they were following a recovery programme created by Irish rugby union side Leinster.

Speaking on The Bench Podcast, Williams had confirmed that standard recovery is eight to ten weeks but that he was hoping for seven, stating: “I think we’re following a programme that Leinster rugby union have used which is getting players back in seven, so that’s the goal for me.

“That’d be seven weeks, two days. So it’s been done before but only two players have made it back in seven weeks. So that’s a goal.”

Now, just two weeks out from the Challenge Cup Final, Williams has provided an injury update on his race to return for Wembley.

Speaking at half-time during Hull KR’s Super League win over Warrington Wolves, Williams offered an injury update when asked if he is in line to play at Wembley.

“I’m hoping so. My rehab is going really really well,” the Wire skipper explained.

“I’m up to date and I’ve been fast-forwarded a little bit to make the final but so far so good.

“I’ve been running really well and I’m hopeful.”

Williams would be a major boost for Warrington who are without a number of key players at the moment including both Danny Walker and Matty Ashton on longer-term injuries, the latter being out for the remainder of 2025.

Paul Vaughan (calf strain) and Marc Sneyd (knock) are others who missed the defeat to Hull KR.
